Arkivum and MirrorWeb Partner to Offer Complete Digital Preservation Service

Marketing Team
MirrorWeb and Arkivum Partnership

We are excited to announce our new partnership with Arkivum, the long-term data lifecycle management experts. We have chosen to partner to make the process of preserving website and social media feeds effortless through integration with Arkivum’s managed service offering.

The hybrid digital preservation and archival safeguarding solution will combine Arkivum’s expertise in long-term data lifecycle management and digital preservation and our skill in web and social media archiving to meet compliance and regulatory requirements.

The partnership will mean that web and social media preservation is now an integral component of Arkivum PERPETUA, powered by MirrorWeb, an end-to-end digital preservation and archival safeguarding solution designed specifically for the Heritage, Libraries and Higher Education markets.

The key innovation here is the ability of the archiving department and researchers to have a permanent copy of the assets in a fully searchable and ISO 27001 WARC format within a system developed specifically for non-expert users, without needing to rely on the respective websites or disjointed legacy alternatives.

The University of Westminster is the first to pilot this collaboration by archiving a number of unique web-based collections, including a number of heritage websites that are about to expire. These resources will now not only be searchable and preserved by non-expert users for years into the future without reliance on the websites themselves, but will also be automatically preserved in the long-term data lifecycle preservation solution, Arkivum’s PERPETUA, without the need for any human intervention.

What does this mean for the heritage, libraries and higher education organisations?

  • This partnership makes Arkivum PERPETUA, powered by MirrorWeb, the most comprehensive data lifecycle management solution and service for web archiving which includes safeguarding, digital preservation, compliance, records management and integration and data discovery.
  • It fills a major gap for institutions seeking digital preservation as a comprehensive service with open-standards and a no-vendor-lock-in philosophy.
  • MirrorWeb clients are now able to extent the value of their investment with PERPETUA, providing a full data lifecycle management solution.

Phil Ogden, Marketing Director of MirrorWeb, said: “Arkivum is a forward-thinking and expert provider in this arena and it is for these reasons we chose to partner with them. This is a new development that represents a progressive evolution of our respective ambitions to deliver best in class end-to-end digital archiving solutions within a coalition of specialist providers. Together, we are future proofing the future of digital archiving.”

Arkivum’s Paula Keogh, VP of Higher Education, Archives, Libraries & Heritage stated: “It’s important to us that we continue to make leaps forward in digital preservation strategy and make it easier to embed preservation into everyday practices. MirrorWeb has a totally unique solution to the difficult issue of preserving web and social media content. This partnership makes it a seamless process to capture and then automatically preserve and describe challenging content types in a re-usable way.”

MirrorWeb and Arkivum will be launching the new combined technology at the ARA Conference in Glasgow 29th – 31st August. Visit MirrorWeb on Stand 8 or Arkivum on Stand 4 to find more information about the partnership or request a demonstration.
